Perspective (15)

kate spade. sold her original brand. working on her next endeavor (probably not as lucrative but whatevers, she’s already reached that “silly money” stage). daughter age 13

anthony bourdain. just starting to reach the peak of his powers. struggled so long – the voice for authentic, unpretentious. the marginalized. the competition show. so damn charming and not machismo – i want more and more friends like him. daughter age 12

don willis. got to fly around africa. stuffy but kind, always in the mix. pretty much not a place i go where he wasn’t already there first. except living here in my hood that is. would’ve joined Kroc board sooner if i knew he was on it – never bragged, etc. maybe i just got it mixed up since he was passionate about 2-3 other great causes here in our region.

Missing The Wheelhouse (14)

even more refining. again, why not very many serial entrepreneurs out there. especially not in disparate industries/business models!

mining my LI list of 2k.

next week is summer so barrage of fun coming my way – always hard to handle the increase in client work during this season b/c love spending all of it with kiddos.

plus, weather wimp so don’t eat, sleep or work right – gaaaah.

we’re not anywhere where i was hoping we’d be. the traction for a monolith-less podcast/blogosphere is daunting as neither side of our 2-sided platform is rabidly joining. that better change in the next 6 months or else we’re royally screwed.

Two Ears, One Mouth (13)

about 60+ listening appts/ reconnects – seeing if client work.

Whew! SMMW was new job for me – very satisfying but clearly did it wrong. odd to not use it to build podcast/blogger relationships but mostly know all the significant players now 1.5 degree at least.

so much listening – the response to our site (design) and tool is not night and day but not mixed at all now! all love the tool – better love it – almost 2 years old now!

Grind Even Harder; 20-Mile Marching (10)

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every situation; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” ~Winston Churchill

need to figure out a more sustainable but more fercious grind.

need to pick up a couple more clients to avoid killing any savings.

nurutre for keynote is still good but haven’t had time to focus it for this next season. shit man.

tlj was great experience – can finally tell people what we were doing during the london leg of our trip. it’ll stand the test of time as a very seminal film at the very least. so hard to balance.

i really would love to make my pals as proud as he did us.

go even harder this next year so that we’re in a dramatically differnet (hoepfully better!) place next year.

it’s still teh wild, wild west, it’s still a 10 year horizon although we’ve probaly lost 6 months if not a full year on that outlook and revenue – fuck i hate that. in hurts in writing and stings even more in real life.

Listen – there are a ton of reasons for why a company doesn’t end up succeeding like they wanted to. But damn it – it’ll never be because of a lack of passion or copious amounts of hard work… not on my watch.
Everything I’ve accomplished in life has been the product of some generosity of others, my slightly above-average intelligence and an ungodly amount of hard work. ‘Nuff said – back to the grind!

Happy Birthday – You’re Two! (12)

“moving from mistake to mistake with no loss on enthusiasm” ~churchill mfer or something

age in dog years for sure!

key lessons learned

key assumptions

some concerns re: our capacity to churn out all this massive growth and for any unseen competitors

had to stall, definite wind out of our sails. me and Tim been killing ourselves. other client work has lapsed, keynote as well -the sheer amount of hours is crazy. young man’s game. my first company did 100+ hours/week for just over three years but that was almost 15 years and another kid ago.

odds and ends with partner fall out. at least it’s easy to revoke permissions – what a fun benefit of a virtual team.

regroup, too far in to even think about fish and cut bait at this point, especially what we know of the maturing marketing (self-driving cars, mobile cardio stations here we come!).

it’s wild, wild west for a while – gatekeepers are non-existent.

the strategist in my definitely sees the 10 year run as we know it – hopefully we’ll be positioned great for what’s next in strategic relationships, goodwill, tech insights and a war chest of cash.

Bucket List; NPR Fanboy and Validation (9)

“Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.” ~Randy Pausch

one day left but hit my personal goal… bummed Tim got to meet one half of the Kitcher Sisters!!! bird on a wire.

PM story justifying stelath mode
overbuild stealth mode story!
in similar mindset – handful of major features that we’re going to tweak and release throughout our first 2 years. I think two might be seismic?!

NPR back-end tech gal. so cool, her job must be fun – i hope it’s fun working with those teams.

A Grain of Sand In My Shoes ; Partnership Gone Bad (8)

“Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example” ~Mark Twain

the beginning of the dissolution

part-time work for full-time payouts. not delivered at all. both in potential and actual quality of work. flabbergasted – we need marketing help and this person has set up back at least a year with slow-drip, no bang for buck efforts.

other huge part of this partner’s equity decision was a culled list of highly enthusiastic prospects. Cultivated and ready to go. this was not the case. just a list. not cultivated very much at all. wouldn’t even upgrade from a free solution to a $7 solution – wow.

will avoid grinding such a painful axe.
